This type of life income can be established with a gift of $2,000 or more. In exchange for your gift, you will be paid a specific annuity. The payout rate is determined by your age. Currently, the interest rates range from 6.6 percent to 12 percent for individuals from ages 60 to 90 or over.
How it works - an example
Mrs. Donor, age 85, gives $10,000 in a Gift Annuity through the Folts Foundation, in a charitable gift annuity. She will receive an annual annuity payment of $1,040 (figured at 10.4%). Her charitable income tax deduction will be $4634.60 the year the gift is given, or spread over five years following. Of the $1,040. received each year, Mrs. Donor can exclude $789.38 as tax exempt income for 10 years.

In exchange for a donor's gift of cash or marketable securities, guarantees in writing that it will pay the donor, a fixed sum quarterly each year.
